While it's typically used as a dubbing-whether worked into a blend or on its own-on nymphs, dry flies, and wet flies, Australian Opossum can also be used to tie small wings on streamers or create chunky bodies on streamers and even steelhead/salmon fly patterns.

Comparisons

Australian Opossum is a unique natural material, and realistically, there isn't another option that has the length, texture, and color that it has. However, if you really need a substitute, something like Hareline's Pine Squirrel Skin would work, but keep in mind, the fibers will be much shorter and a bit stiffer than Australian Opossum.
