Parachute Hopper Fly
The Parachute Hopper is a buggy, lifelike hopper pattern that's slightly more realistic than a traditional foam hopper. This fly has two legs and a stiff wing made with feathers. Add a synthetic head and a traditional parachute that's often seen on other dry flies like the Parachute Adams, and this fly is the perfect combination of practicality and functionality. Tied by Umpqua Signature Tyer Ed Schroeder, this is a great fly for large western freestone rivers in August and September when farmers cut their fields and hoppers inevitably fall into the river. This is also a large enough pattern that it works well as an attractor on smaller cutthroat streams or for targeting large trout around the world. And, as is the case with any good hopper pattern, a dropper nymph is extremely productive off of the parachute hopper.
