Hareline Vinyl Rib

Hareline Vinyl Rib

A material that's versatile enough to stock your Bahamas bonefish box, winter steelhead box, spring trout box, and even summer panfish box, Hareline's Vinyl Rib is a must-have no matter what you're fishing for. Vinyl Rib is a half-round translucent plastic ribbing material that's soft and flexible and can be used when you need to craft a durable body and/or want segmentation. This affordable and versatile material is made in three sizes-midge, nymph, and medium-to accommodate a variety of hook sizes, and with a ton of color options, you'll be able to make the right choice whether tying bright shrimp to fish on the flats or dark stoneflies to drift on a snowy afternoon.

Uses

Vinyl Rib is mostly used to wrap bodies or rib bodies made of dubbing, thread, or floss. Both of these choices create great segmentation in your flies, and when you make bodies entirely out of Vinyl Rib, they tend to sink quite well.

Comparisons

A very comparable option to Hareline's Vinyl Rib is UTC's Vinyl D Rib. Both of these are made from vinyl and feature a half circle or D shape, and they can be used for pretty much the same applications. Apart from some colors being a little different between products, the main difference is that UTC's D RIb comes on a spool while Hareline's Vinyl Rib is packaged in a bag. Each of these materials is a great choice, and they can be used almost interchangeably.

Note: The medium size (hook size 8-12) is great for crazy Charlies, stoneflies, and large nymphs. The nymph size (hook size 12-16) is good for midge to medium nymphs, and the midge size (hook size 16-20) for midges and small nymphs.

Example Flies

The Vinyl Bug and Crazy Charlie are two very popular patterns that sport this material.
