Cortland Striped Bass Floating Fly Line

Cortland Striped Bass Floating Fly Line

Wandering along a mud flat at low tide searching the skinny stuff for cruising fish, making commotion on the surface with a large popper, quickly recasting at that blitzing pod of albies that’s been frustrating you all morning, each of these scenarios is a very real situation for the saltwater angler and having a tool that handles them all can be key to your success. Cortland, with their Striped Bass Float series of lines, is here to help put the odds in your favor. This floating line was built around pursuing striped bass, but it’s an equally effective tool whether you’re casting to albacore in Hatteras or working a small tidal river in the Chesapeake Bay. Combining an aggressive taper with Cortland’s X-Core and Shooting Technology, this line is super tough and has just the taper that you want to make quick casts and deliver bulky air-resistant patterns long distances. The Striped Bass Floating Fly Line is made in line weights 8 through 10 to let you effectively pursue anything from small schoolies to massive bass and speedsters like albies.

Features

Dual Welded Loops - Whether you’re dealing with your backing-to-fly line connection or fly line-to-leader connection, there’s no doubt that welded loops greatly simplify things. With their Striped Bass Floating Line, Cortland equips the line with dual welded loops. These loops are super strong and incredibly easy to use, giving you the best of both worlds in terms of functionality and convenience.

Shooting Technology (ST) - A technology created to decrease friction in your cast while increasing distance and shootability, Cortland’s Shooting Technology gives your line a super-smooth finish that will last for your line’s life. From mornings spent wading the flats to long casts out of a skiff, Cortland takes the hassle out of hitting those far targets with their Shooting Technology.

X-Strong Core - To meet the needs of strong fish like striped bass, albies, and bluefish, this line has Cortland's proprietary X-Strong Core that has a tough weave and high pick count so you can apply power where you need it.

Cold Salt - To further increase this line’s durability, Cortland integrates their Cold Salt technology. Cold Salt is a proprietary technology that keeps your line super durable and super supple while also decreasing any memory in your line.

Uses

Streamers, Poppers, Crustaceans - With its aggressive taper, Cortland’s Striped Bass Floating Line provides excellent versatility to the saltwater angler. This line is able to easily turn over large and bulky flies like poppers and big streamers, but it’s also a solid choice whenever you’re looking for stealth in order to softly land a shrimp pattern in front of a slowly moving fish–the Aqua Green/Light Blue line color also works to increase your presentation by blending in yet still remaining traceable to your eye.

Temp

Cold to Warm - Cortland knows that striped bass swim from the Carolinas and all the way north of Maine. For this reason, they made this line for use in cold to warm water. This temperature range will cover everything that you might encounter along the Atlantic, but should you try and use this line in a tropical environment, like Florida, you’ll notice that it softens up and turns limp.

Taper/Weight

More Mass Towards the Front of the Head - Cortland’s Striped Bass Floating Line has an aggressive taper that concentrates the mass towards the head. This taper begins with a 4’ front taper to easily turn over large flies and then transitions into a 21’ body taper to add power and easy rod loading and it finishes off with a 5’ back taper in order to quickly load your line while decreasing false casts. A solid taper for making quick shots or battling the wind, this line excels in the rough conditions that we often find while pursuing saltwater fish.
