Chocklett's Loco Foam

Chocklett's Loco Foam

Whether you're tying up some fancy beetles or some large saltwater Gurglers, Chocklett's Loco Foam is an excellent choice. Designed by Blane Chocklett, Loco Foam is a flat, closed-cell tying foam that comes in a variety of different metallic and pearlescent colors. Perfect for adding some bold colors to any pattern that requires foam, Loco Foam is a versatile material that can be used for dry flies, terrestrials, bass bugs, and more. Able to be used in salt and freshwater, Loco Foam is a versatile material that adds an extra element of life and realism to any pattern you can tie up.

Uses

Although Loco Foam is most commonly used for flies like Crease Flies, Gurglers, and various terrestrials, it can be used for other things, too. Loco Foam is able to be palmered to create durable and buoyant dry fly bodies, build extended bodies on adult dragon and damselflies, and it can even be worked into streamer heads and bodies whenever you're looking for a neutrally buoyant fly or one that has a diving action. A material with near-endless possibilities, Loco Foam enhances any fly you can think up.

Comparisons

Although many different foam materials exist on the market, none seem to have the bold metallic and pearlescent colors of Loco Foam. However, if you're looking for closed-cell foam that comes in solid colors and performs like Loco Foam, Hareline's Fly Foam is a great choice. This is a similar closed-cell foam in texture, but it doesn't have the shiny appearance and color variety of Loco Foam. While these materials can be used interchangeably, whenever you need a metallic or reflective look, Loco Foam is the right choice.

Example Flies

Loco Foam is a versatile material that can be worked into a variety of flies, but some of the more popular patterns are:

  • Disco Beetle
  • Chartreuse Slider
